Computer programming in kindergarten? Code writing is just one of several new skills England’s children would be taught, according to the final version of an overhauled national curriculum released on July 8.

Created by his family to honor the memory of Leroy Anthony Coles III, a retired Fluor Daniel engineer and mentor, the C3 Coles Family Foundation’s new “Poppy’s Promise” program provides up to $2,500 in scholarships to high school seniors who will be majoring in an engineering discipline at a four-year college or university. 
The AWG Minority Scholarship provides women interested in pursuing majors or careers in hydrology, meteorology, or other geoscience field with up to $6,000 to assist with tuition and books. It also matches students with mentors who can offer guidance and support. Application deadline is June 30, 2013.
