Shell Eco-marathon is a global challenge that motivates high school and college students to drive farther than their peers on one gallon of fuel. Student teams participate in one of or both the Prototype (futuristic design) and UrbanConcept (roadworthy, fuel-efficient) classes.

Whether seeking to prepare for Advanced Placement® Biology exams or take engineering math, high school students now can access 27 free online courses from the MIT-Harvard edX consortium designed to help boost their chance of college STEM success.
The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy is a five-day, all-expenses-paid professional development program for third- through fifth-grade teachers designed to help inspire students to pursue careers in science and math. The fun, hands-on activities are created and led by two of the nation’s leading teacher-training organizations, Math Solutions Professional Development and the National Science Teachers Association. Applications for the 2015 Academy are due October 31, 2014.
“The Power of Engineering” is the theme of the Technology Student Association’s 2015 TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) competition for middle and high school students. Groups hone their STEM skills and knowledge by addressing real-world challenges related to solar, nuclear, biofuels, and electrical energy, with top-ranked teams invited to participate in the national competition June 28 to July 2, 2015.
Applications for the 2014 Google RISE (Roots in Science and Engineering) Awards are due September 30. Organizations can receive up to $50,000 to expand successful K-12 computer science programs or include computer science in STEM programs aimed at girls and underrepresented minorities.
The SMART Competition invites high school students to apply their knowledge of science, math, physics, and engineering to develop intelligent-building solutions for a world increasingly dependent on energy efficiency, redesign, and reuse, This year’s challenge is to redesign an existing high school gym. Students will be mentored by design and engineering professionals, and use the same techniques and tools as the country’s best design firms.
Are your students vexed by vectors or mystified by electricity? MIT’s Open Courseware offers a series of videos designed to help students learn these and other pivotal concepts in science, technology, engineering, mathematics that are the building blocks of many engineering curricula.
MIT BLOSSOMS, a blended-learning consortium for high school STEM educators, houses a video library with more than 100 free science, engineering, and math lessons taught by experts in the field – and searchable by national and state standards, grade level, and content.
