Purdue’s College of Science K-12 Outreach program provides professional development programs for teachers, forms long term partnerships with school districts, and presents activities for students. It also offers class visits, curricular programs, laboratory equipment, and other activities aimed at the improvement of science and math education.

The Nifty Fifty are a group of engineering and science professionals chosen to fan out across the Washington, DC area October 12 -20 to speak about their work and careers at various middle and high schools. Part of the 2010 USA Science and Engineering Festival, each speaker will make at least one, three-hour commitment, where they provide their own visuals and have lunch with a subset of interested students.

Purdue University’s “Innovation 2 Reality” (I2R) features three FREE 5-week after-school programs for 6th-8th grade students in Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 focused on the themes: Engineering and Our Changing Climate (Oct. 17 – Nov. 10), Edible Engineering (Jan. 13 – Feb. 10), and The Energy Game (Feb. 8-March 8 ) The programs offer a combination of faculty guest speakers, lab tours and hands-on engineering activities.

Organized by the Mexican American Engineers and Scientists organization, the Austin, Texas Science and Engineering Festival and its multiple events will showcase the science and technology of Texas. It will culminate in a two-day Expo Expo at the Austin Convention Center with over 200 exhibits of hands-on, fun science and engineering activities to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Ideaventions – A Discovery Lab for Kids hosts a celebration of science and engineering with hands-on activities for kids of all ages. Attendees will be able to build rockets, explore circuits, play with robotics, and prepare for Halloween by mixing a potion or two. Elementary and middle schoolers and their families are especially encouraged to attend.
