Innovation2Reality (I2R)

I2R is a FREE after-school engineering program offered through the Women in Engineering Program at Purdue University for 6th-8th grade students.  I2R provides a unique opportunity to explore themed areas of engineering through a combination of faculty guest speakers, lab tours, and hands-on engineering activities.  Each theme will meet once a week for five weeks from 4-6pm.

2010-11 Themes:

The Dynamic World:  Engineering and Our Changing Climate (Oct. 17-Nov. 10, 2010)
Climate change provides a unique opportunity for engineers and scientists to work together in addressing worldwide issues.  This session provides an opportunity to explore engineering applications for our changing climate through hands-on activities and interaction with experts.

Edible Engineering:  The Life Cycle of Food (Jan. 13 – Feb. 10, 2011)
Explore the journey of food from before it’s grown to after it’s eaten.  Students will have the opportunity to learn more about how engineers are involved in all aspects of the food cycle in a fun, interactive way.

The Energy Game:  We’ve Got the Power! (February 8 – March 8 )
We use energy to make our lives more comfortable & more fun, but providing enough energy for all is a challenging task.  We will explore the many ways engineers and scientists use natural resources to meet the ever-increasing energy demand & discover how technological advances and individual efforts can increase how efficiently we use the limited resources of our planet.

Eligibility: All 6th-8th grade students who are interested in exploring engineering are encouraged to sign up.
