Launched to help educators help their students understand that originality matters, Plagiarism Education Week offers free webinars with tips for teachers, new resources for students on conducting better online research and proper citations, and a student poster contest.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 Siemens STEM Institute, an all-expenses-paid week of professional development for 50 middle and high school science and math teachers, and for a two-week Science Teachers as Researchers summer fellowship.
ASEE has put together a public/private partnership to develop ways of engaging students and teachers in engineering. Participants will learn about innovative, hands-on, project-based engineering activities, courses, curriculum options, events, outreach programs, professional development, and competitions.
NASA is providing several new webinars for educators, which include hands-on activity demonstrations for specific grade levels. Additionally, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is offering an online course on climate research applications with funding from the NASA Innovations in Climate Education program. Applications for the course are due August 20, 2012.
Forget science fairs and drop-bys. Engineering educators now actively prepare teachers to deliver the E in K-12 STEM. Propelled by research and the country’s drive for more STEM graduates, outreach programs have evolved well beyond the career-day talks, teacher workshops, and other one-shot efforts of a decade ago.
Two online webinars and a workshop that will provide information about the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, including how to prepare Letters of Intent and proposals for the upcoming deadlines, will be held Feb. 15, 16, and 21, respectively. The deadline for registration is Monday, Feb. 13, 2012. The program seeks to encourage talented STEM majors and professionals to become K-12 mathematics and science teachers.
Atlanta Public Schools has a plan for easing its shortage of math and science teachers: Create them. The 50,000-student district is launching an urban residency program to prepare both career-changers and current educators to work in math and science classrooms. Recruits will spend a year shadowing a high-performing APS teacher while completing a master’s in education from Georgia State University. 
CSEdWeek 2011 celebrates the impact of computing and the need for computer science education. The week incorporates events and resources for students, teachers, parents, administrators, college and university reps, and industry. When: December 4-11, 2011.
