The Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, OH, offers several summer science and engineering camps for kids of all ages. Teens can explore amusement park technology, robotics, and video games. Pre-teens can explore planet Earth, aeronautics, and animal adaptations. Even the little ones can dig for dinos, visit a local watershed, and build and launch boats. Level: 5-16-year-olds.

An Engineering Education Makes a World of DifferenceAn Engineering Education Makes a World of Difference” is a new website from the National Academy of Engineering that highlights role models who have used an engineering education to innovate products, processes, and services that improve human health, welfare, and happiness. Twice a week for each week from Monday, January 31 through Thursday, July 14, the site will release a new video (less than 30 seconds long) to be posted to the web and which can be “pushed” to individual cell phones. You can text “CASEE” to 21534 to subscribe to the twice-weekly videos.

In addition to the role models, the site provides links to other sites that explain what engineering is and where visitors can find out more about engineering.

Teams research, develop, and test their solution before presenting it to a global audience. Students and their coaches put their ideas and skills to the test in one of three events.

UT Austin GirlsIntroduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day), for 1st through 8th grade students, will be held this year at the University of Texas at Austin on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 2 to 5 p.m. Families and educators are encouraged to join their students at for an afternoon of engineering fun. Girl Day gives students a chance to have fun doing grade-specific, hands-on engineering activities; meet students, professors and engineers from industry, and see what it’s like to be an engineer.
