Verizon Innovative App Challenge 2016

Absolutely no coding or tech expertise is required for middle and high school students to compete in the Verizon Innovative App Challenge. Winners will receive a $20,000 grand prize and the chance to work with MIT experts to turn their concepts into downloadable mobile apps. Register your team by November 24, 2015.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s new energy literacy video series highlights the seven principles that demonstrate energy’s role across the natural and social sciences, and is part of a broader set of education resources, lessons, and activities maintained by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest invites children 15 and under from around the world to share ideas about the future of mobility by drawing their dream cars. Alternative energy, forces and motion, the environment, and robotics are some of the areas students in grades 6 to 9 can explore in the 2015 eCYBERMISSION. This free, web-based STEM competition is sponsored by the U.S. Army and administered by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). Aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, the contest draws thousands of participants each year and has awarded some $10 million in EE U.S. Savings Bonds. Registration closes December 17, 2015.
To mark the 25th anniversary of its student essay contest, DuPont created a series of downloadable STEM all-star trading cards. Use them to inspire your writers to participate in this year’s DuPont Challenge. Deadline is January 31, 2016.
In this activity, students in grades 3 to 12 learn how design differences can affect the success of a final product by working in pairs to evaluate, design, and build a better candy bag. They must predict the volume and strength of their designs, test and redesign the bag based on its ability to hold weight, discuss findings, and share results.
