Sci-Toons: Fun Videos Convey Serious Science

What is graphene? How do we see color? These are just two of the questions Brown University researchers answer in a series of engaging animated videos called Sci-Toons designed for informal and after-school science programs.

To celebrate Earth Science Week, the American Geosciences Institute is hosting a photography contest for people of all ages, a visual arts contest for elementary students, and an essay contest for students in grades 6 to 9. Deadline for submission is Friday, October 16, 2015. 
In this first of eight activities, students in grades 6 – 8 learn about the engineering design process and earth science by beginning to design an underground cavern that can shelter people for one year after an asteroid strike makes Earth uninhabitable.
