The Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, OH, offers several summer science and engineering camps for kids of all ages. Teens can explore amusement park technology, robotics, and video games. Pre-teens can explore planet Earth, aeronautics, and animal adaptations. The 2010 BadgerBOTS Robotics Summer Daycamp will be held at Memorial High School, Madison, Wisconsin for students in grades 4 through 8th. The camp is designed to teach campers everything about basic principles of design, programming, and the engineering process through the creation of LEGO robots. The activities allow students of all ability levels and experience to learn new skills and build a genuine pride in their accomplishments. The camp includes fieldtrips to the planetarium for robots in space and possibly other local sites. Dates: Four sessions, from July 25-August 19. Cost: $500.

“An Engineering Education Makes a World of Difference” is a new website from the National Academy of Engineering that highlights role models who have used an engineering education to innovate products, processes, and services that improve human health, welfare, and happiness. Twice a week for each week from Monday, January 31 through Thursday, July 14, the site will release a new video (less than 30 seconds long) to be posted to the web and which can be “pushed” to individual cell phones. You can text “CASEE” to 21534 to subscribe to the twice-weekly videos.

In addition to the role models, the site provides links to other sites that explain what engineering is and where visitors can find out more about engineering.
