Event: Student Engineering Films. Drexel U. June 3, 2010


Everyone is welcome to attend the 3rd annual Engineering Film Festival, where short videos produced by Drexel engineering students will be viewed and judged in competition. All films, between 3 minutes and 8 minutes long, PG-rated, relate in some way to the College of Engineering at Drexel University or the field of engineering in general. Come view the creativity of these engineering students and gain ideas for your own classroom and students.

Students Summer: Materials Camp. Missouri, July 25-30, 2010

MATThe one-week ASM Materials camp at Missouri University of Science and Technology, July 25-30, 2010, offers rising juniors and seniors an opportunity to explore materials science and engineering principles through a combination of mini-demonstrations, field trips, and group projects. Past projects have included microelectronic circuitry, friction-stir welding, ceramic magnets, metal casting, glass processing, and heat treatment and mechanical property evaluation. Cost: Free. Students Summer: Biomedical & Veterinary Camp, Penn. State, June.

Penn State Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp, June 27-July 2, 2010, for grades 11. In this program, students spend time in state-of-the-art laboratories guided by veterinary and biomedical sciences faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students. They interact with veterinarians, immunologists, and toxicologists, and learn veterinary and biomedical professions through laboratory exercises, lectures, and a tour of a local veterinary practice. The MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), dedicated to teaching science through direct experience, has helped create hands-on educational tools, including a plasma demonstration device and an interactive tokamak video game. Through demonstrations and tours of working experiments, MIT students and staff share the excitement of plasma research with area school students.

Student Programs: INSPIRE at NASA. Deadline: June 30, 2010

High school students throughout the United States are invited to participate in NASA’s 2010-2011 Interdisciplinary National Science Program Incorporating Research Experience, or INSPIRE, a multitier year-round program designed for students in grades 9 to 12th who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and careers. Applications are being accepted through June 30, 2010.
