The MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), dedicated to teaching science through direct experience, has helped create hands-on educational tools, including a plasma demonstration device and an interactive tokamak video game. Through demonstrations and tours of working experiments, MIT students and staff share the excitement of plasma research with area school students.

Multi-program Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee has a long history of linking with academia. Currently ORNL has educational programs in place for all scientific disciplines, and for all levels, from pre-college through postgraduate. ORNL offers educational and research experiences, scholarships, internships, summer day camps, symposiums, educational tours, financial aid to Tennessee schools, and speaking engagements.

PNNL is committed to supporting science and engineering education at all levels. Multi-program Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico provides a number of different programs and materials for learners and educators at all levels. Last year, more than 1,200 students took advantage of educational opportunities at LANL. The lab offers high school work experience options, online resources for both teachers and students, student profiles, internships, teacher professional development, conferences, educational tours, mentoring opportunities, undergraduate programs, graduate programs, and a mobile science museum.

Engineering the Future® Three-Day Institutes is a concentrated, hands-on workshop offered by the Museum of Science, Boston, open to all teachers interested in expanding their knowledge of standards-based engineering design.Participants work through key activities in each of the course’s four projects, and have the opportunity to ask questions, practice what they’ve learned, and discuss concerns with course developers and experienced teachers.
