Thirteen years ago, the University of Texas, Austin, started a program called UTeach that allowed math and science majors to simultaneously earn teaching certificates. It worked so well at UT-Austin that the school set up the National Math and Science Initiative to help the program spread to other universities across the country. Now the Obama administration wants to put the project into overdrive.

The Washington Science Teachers’ Association (WSTA) will hold its annual conference, March 12 – 14, 2010. The conference offers opportunities to explore the new science standards revisions and science instructional materials that support the science standards, and to engage with science professionals through workshops, informal networking opportunities, and vendor exhibits.

The Science Museum of Virginia is pleased to offer a “week in the field” for teachers interested in teaching environmental science to their students. Workshops are open to teachers of any grade. Workshops are scheduled throughout the year and correlated with the Virginia Standards of Learning.

The STEM-Up Initiative, based in the Boyle Heights area of East Los Angeles, is designed to integrate STEM career pathways into schools and local communities. STEM-Up aims to connect 80,000 residents to the surrounding STEM Community, consisting of institutions of higher learning, government agencies, corporations and other organizations.
