Project CANDLE is a partnership to Create an Alliance to Nurture Design in Lighting Education. Some activities include: travel awards that expose students to career opportunities in lighting; the mentorship of a future lighting educator through the IALD Future Lighting Educator Fellowship; an annual Lighting Industry Advisory Group (LIAG) Roundtable; and outreach to high school students.

Applications are now open for the 2012-13 Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator program. Interested educators should use the online application. This fellowship, in its 23rd year, aims to provide teachers voice in Washington D.C. regarding Federal STEM education programs and policies.
The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) has put together a public/private partnership to develop ways of engaging elementary, middle, and high school students in engineering. Participants will learn about innovative, hands-on, project-based engineering at three events during National Science Teachers Association regional conferences.
Science Club for Girls (SCFG) is a series of afterschool STEM programs offering K-12 girls the chance to explore science and technology through experiments and activities. Through the Junior Mentor leadership program, teenage girls become role models, teaching young children science, learning life skills, conducting outreach, and exploring careers in STEM fields. 
Johns Hopkins University’s Engineering for Professionals (EP) program, part of the Whiting School of Engineering, will provide free tuition beginning with the summer term to Maryland public and private high school teachers who want to further their professional development in STEM disciplines.
The Journey Museum in Rapids City, SD, is offering two NASA LEGO-Robotics workshops for students, June 9, 2011 and August 4, 2011. Participants will engage in challenges that can be shared with students to encourage the use of imagination, problem-solving skills and team work. Cost: $25 per workshop, $15 for members.
The online Smithsonian Education page is a gateway to the institutions educational resources and materials, with offerings for teachers, students, and families. The Teachers’ section offers lesson plans, resources, and information on field trips and professional development, as well the opportunity to subscribe to Smithsonian in Your Classroom, a journal for elementary and middle school educators.
The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy is a one-week all-expense-paid intensive professional development program in the summer for third- through fifth-grade teachers. The Academy offers a five-day program designed to provide third- through fifth-grade teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to motivate students to pursue careers in science and math. On November 13, 2010, in Vancouver, BC, the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) will offer a free, hands-on workshop for K-12 teachers and engineers, designed to bring K-12 educators together with engineers.
