In partnership with the Myoo Create community, Levi Strauss & Co. is running a competition for designers everywhere to respond to the challenge of how to design the world’s most innovative, covetable, and sustainable air-drying solution for clothing. They’re offering $10,000 prize money to be distributed among the finalists for the most effective solutions, as well as an audience with experienced designers and eco-innovators.

The latest X-Prize Foundation multimillion-dollar engineering and invention contest will tackle the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, with entrants proposing solutions to shorelines and open water sullied by oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which has been gushing since April 20, 2010.

Everyone is welcome to attend the 3rd annual Engineering Film Festival, where short videos produced by Drexel engineering students will be viewed and judged in competition. All films, between 3 minutes and 8 minutes long, PG-rated, relate in some way to the College of Engineering at Drexel University or the field of engineering in general. Come view the creativity of these engineering students and gain ideas for your own classroom and students.

Delaware and Tennessee won the first round of grants in the U.S. Department of Education’s $4 billion Race to the Top Fund competition. Delaware will get $100 million, and Tennessee $500 million. The competition is aimed at encouraging states to create conditions for education reform.

Last week, 40 states and the District of Columbia applied for the $4.35 billion Race to the Top competition. The Obama Administration’s pet education program, the competition will award grants to states that overhaul and upgrade their schools systems to encourage more classroom innovation. It gives priority to those states whose reforms emphasize STEM education.

Game over! After 8 hours 56 minutes, an MIT team solved the contest, entered by more than 4,000 teams.
The DARPA competition, starting Dec. 5, challenges teams to compete for a $40,000 prize, to be the first to submit the locations of 10 moored, 8-foot, red, weather balloons at 10 fixed locations in the continental United States. Participants must register on the competition website and should check there for full details and rules.
