7th Graders Create Animation Videos

Seventh-grade technology education students in Hampton, Va., are learning to create clay animation videos using a webcam, software and clay. They research, design and create a five- to 10-minute episode for a hypothetical TV show, creating a storyboard, script, animated characters and digital imagery. “They’re only limited by their imagination,” says teacher Terry Beddow.

This full-day workshop on December 4, 2010, 9am – 4pm, from the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach, Tufts University, is intended to provide an immersive introduction of stop-motion animation to K-16 teachers using SAM Animation. At this Tufts University Center for Engineering Education 3-day workshop held Feb. 17 -19, students grades 3-6 will create animations using animation software designed at the CEEO (www.samanimation.com). Students will use materials such as LEGO, clay, and whiteboards to design and create movie sets. Cost: $300. Medford, Mass.
