“Live with the Land” marks the first of a series of live, online conferences from the Smithsonian Institution. Each webinar, appropriate for teachers and students, provides lively, informative exchanges with experts in science, history, and the arts and people everywhere in the world. Presentations include visuals such as artworks and photographs, maps and graphics, and video clips — all archived for replay any time. Date: November 16, 2010. Register online.

Polar Bear International’s Tundra Connections invites students and teachers to join free live Webcasts on Nov. 15 and 16, 2010, to talk with leading polar bear scientists, zoologists, and educators as they conduct live broadcasts that are informative and educational, focusing on the topics of polar bears and climate change. The Homeschool Science Program (HSP) presents free materials science workshops, at the Sciencenter in Ithaca, NY, on select Tuesdays, 2-3 p.m. November 2010 through March 2011 for children ages 6-13 and their adult guardians. The workshops are hands-on and encourage students to explore how materials interact with each other. Upcoming workshops: November 9, 2010, Bridge Building; December 14, 2010, Sounds of Science. The Center for Excellence in Education sponsors the Research Science Institute, the National Lab Skills Initiative, and the USA Biology Olympiad. The organization is a strong advocate for gifted education and contributes to the national debate on education reform. The Center actively supports developing scholars through its programs for high school through post-graduate students.
Imagine making your own slime, talking turkey, driving a championship robot, becoming a TV meteorologist, or traveling through a virtual representation of outer space. These are just a few of the many activities planned for the 25th Annual S.E.E.D. – Science Education Enrichment Day at the University of South Carolina, October 16, 2010 
The 2011 Davidson Fellowships recognize high-achieving young people with scholarships of $50,000, $25,000 or $10,000 that can must be used at any accredited institute of learning. Applicants must submit an original piece of work recognized by experts as significant and with the potential to make a positive contribution to society. Areas in the program include Science, Technology, Mathematics, Music, Literature, Philosophy, or “Outside the Box.” The deadline to apply is March 2, 2011, with preliminary deadlines on February 2 and 16, 2011. 
The Mother Daughter TEA (Technology Engineering Aptitude) events are 1-day professional development workshops to train participants in holding their own Mother/Daughter TEAs. The STEM Academy is a national non-profit education program designed to improve STEM literacy for students. The curriculum prepares students through comprehensive student assessment including traditional tests, project-based learning presentations, and portfolios. The Academy also offers a grant fund for high schools.
