In partnership with the Myoo Create community, Levi Strauss & Co. is running a competition for designers everywhere to respond to the challenge of how to design the world’s most innovative, covetable, and sustainable air-drying solution for clothing. They’re offering $10,000 prize money to be distributed among the finalists for the most effective solutions, as well as an audience with experienced designers and eco-innovators.

The UCI Chemistry Outreach Program was developed to address the issue of declining opportunities to learn chemistry. In the program, a graduate student or postdoctoral coordinator sends teams of graduate and undergraduate student volunteers to Orange County schools to perform demonstrations and talk about chemistry. The coordinator contacts the high schools, develops the demonstrations, recruits and trains the volunteers, and supplies the volunteers with materials needed for the demonstrations.

Da Vinci – The Genius is a traveling exhibition on display at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C., from June 18 to Sept. 12, that demonstrates the full scope of Leonardo da Vinci’s remarkable innovations as an inventor, artist, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, musician, and architect. The exhibition includes Da Vinci’s visions for the glider, parachute, precursor to the modern helicopter, forerunner of the modern military tank, automobile, submarine, ball bearing and gear systems, and other inventions that were far ahead of their time.

The Berkeley Center for Cosmological Physics Global Teachers’ Academy is seeking student applicants for its fourth annual two week summer workshop for high school students and teachers. The “Physics in and Through Cosmology” workshop will be held at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory adjacent to the University of California, Berkeley Campus beginning Monday, July 19 and ending Friday, July 30. The deadline for applications is June 30.

At the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond, visitors will find interactive learning and activities at the exhibits: Science Unplugged, Bioscape, Electriworks, Newton in SpacE: bodies in motion, Space Gallery, Virginia Tech Solar House, and the Virginia Tech Solar House. Visitors also will soon be able to visit the green roof project atop the IMAX theater. Museum programs include visiting exhibitions, educational programming, overnight adventures, lectures, demonstrations, live theater and summer camps. The AT&T Virtual Science Challenge is a multimedia contest for Kentucky students entering grades 5 through 10 who want a fun, non-traditional way to showcase their ideas. The contest provides an opportunity to effectively communicate creative solutions to science challenges through interactive, web-based projects. It encourages the development of science, math, engineering, and technology skills as students work individually or in teams to tackle unconventional science challenges and post their solutions online. Prizes: include a $1,000 Grand Prize, as well as IMAX theatre tickets and memberships to the Louisville Science Center. Entry Deadline: June 15, 2010.
