FIRST STEM Equity Grants

To broaden access and reduce inequities in STEM education and after-school programming, FIRST® has partnered with Apple and Microsoft to provide grants of up to $50,000 to as many as 15 communities in United States and Canada for the coming school year. Letters of intent are due March 11, 2016.

Biofuels and other interdisciplinary energy topics are the subject of free “train the trainer” workshops for STEM and agriculture teachers sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Bioenergy and Bioproducts Education Program. The central New York workshop runs from July 27 – 30, with a Washington, D.C., workshop from August 10 – 13.

The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy is a five-day, all-expenses-paid professional development program for third- through fifth-grade teachers designed to help inspire students to pursue careers in science and math. Widener University, in Chester, Pa., is offering a free, interactive Introduction to Engineering Workshop for high school teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators from July 30–Aug. 1, 2013. Lodging, breakfasts, and lunches included. 
Want to help your STEM students beat the “summer slide?” NASA’s Summer of Innovation project offers summer day camps for middle school kids, teacher professional development opportunities, and minigrants of up to $2,500 for schools, youth organizations, or other partners to infuse STEM content into existing after-school or summer programs. The application deadline is June 10, 2013.
