Contest: National Science Bowl

dept energy logoThe U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science. High school and middle school students are quizzed in a fast paced question-and-answer format similar to Jeopardy. Competing teams from diverse backgrounds are comprised of four students, one alternate, and a teacher who serves as an advisor and coach.

Teachers’ Summer: DOE National Labs, 4-8 weeks

The Department of Energy Academies Creating Teacher Scientists (DOE ACTS) program provides STEM educators (Grades 5-12) with sustained, intensive professional development that is experientially based and utilizes the wealth of mentoring talent at DOE National Laboratories. Educators integrate the teaching of STEM disciplines with the practice of science, establish long-term relationships with their mentor scientists and teaching colleagues, transferring their experiences to the classroom.
