NASA’s Learning Environments and Research Network and the Georgia Institute of Technology have teamed up to create the ePDN, a new initiative dedicated to preparing K-12 teachers to engage their students in STEM subjects through the use of NASA-developed learning materials and resources. Teachers wanting to enhance their instructional skills, meet professional development goals, or find new and exciting resources to use in learning environments can apply to one of the free courses.

NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day Website is a helpful resource originated, written, coordinated, and edited since 1995 by Robert Nemiroff and Jerry Bonnell. The APOD archive contains the largest collection of annotated astronomical images on the internet.

On the Curikki Website, teachers can gain access to free lesson plans, curricula, links, videos, image galleries, and other resources, with a large selection of science- and engineering-related topics. They can also join as members to communicate with other teachers, submit their own lesson plans, and evaluate on others’ materials. The site’s social networking tools include a blog and Facebook and Twitter pages.

The “Out of the Blue” Website, supported by the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado, offers teachers k-12 lessons that can be conducted at the park or in the classroom, as well as some that are Web-based. Each activity and lesson plan is listed and correlated to Colorado State Learning Standards and cross-referenced according to grade, subject, and whether it is suitable as a pre- or post-trip classroom lesson or an on-site activity.
