It’s easy to find your way to school. Now imagine trying to navigate the skies, with no signs to point you in the right direction. How do pilots find their way? These “pilot training lessons” developed by the Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education at the Stevens Institute of Technology will teach your young aviators the principles of navigation in a fun series of real-time activities.
In baseball, batters aim to “hit ’em where they ain’t.” In education, writes Autodesk executive Joe Astroth in a new Huffington Post blog, smart phones and other portable technology can connect students to learning after school and “teach ”em where they are.”

“An Engineering Education Makes a World of Difference” is a new website from the National Academy of Engineering that highlights role models who have used an engineering education to innovate products, processes, and services that improve human health, welfare, and happiness. Twice a week for each week from Monday, January 31 through Thursday, July 14, the site will release a new video (less than 30 seconds long) to be posted to the web and which can be “pushed” to individual cell phones. You can text “CASEE” to 21534 to subscribe to the twice-weekly videos.
In addition to the role models, the site provides links to other sites that explain what engineering is and where visitors can find out more about engineering.
In this video, Sport Science takes a deeper look into concussions caused from helmet to helmet collisions. It exams the different factors involved and offers statistics on concussions and collisions in the NFL.
This video from Riddell shows how their protective football helmets are made. The video takes a step-by-step approach and explains how the gear is tested and assembled.
A science fair is generally a competition where contestants present their science project results in the form of a report, display board, and models that they have created. Science fairs allow students in grade schools and high schools to compete in science and/or technology activities.
