Program: Naval Research Internships
Deadline: January 6, 2012
The Naval Research Enterprise Intern Program (NREIP), provides an opportunity for university students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer.
The goals of the NREIP are to encourage participating students to pursue science and engineering careers, to further education via mentoring by laboratory personnel and their participation in research, and to make them aware of DoN research and technology efforts, which can lead to employment within the DoN.
NREIP provides competitive research internships to approximately 238 college students (174 undergraduate students and 64 graduate students) each year. Participating students typically spend ten weeks during the summer doing research at approximately 19 DoN laboratories. To participate, a student must be enrolled at an accredited four year U.S. college or university and have completed their freshman year before beginning the internship.
This ten-week intern program is designed to provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in research, under the guidance of an appropriate research mentor, at a participating Navy laboratory.
For undergraduate students, the stipend is as follows: Sophomores receive $5,250.00 and Juniors and Seniors receive $7,880.00. Graduate students will receive $10,500.00. Stipends will be paid monthly, May-August.
The last day to submit an application will be January 6, 2012. References and transcripts are due on January 6, 2012 by 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST). Start Dates will vary based upon the lab. The earliest anyone can start at a lab is the first week in May.
