Students ages 5 to 18 are invited to take the Cambridge Science Festival’s Curiosity Challenge: Write an essay, draw or take a picture about your curiosity and tell us how it prompted you to explore your world. Then enter your essay or artwork in the Curiosity Challenge by submitting it at any Cambridge Public School or Cambridge Public Library branch or at the MIT Museum by Feb. 12, 2010.

Topics range from better known fuels, such as biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen, to emerging fuels such as biobutanol and hydrogenation-derived renewable diesel (HDRD). Carried on many radio stations, these podcasts can also be played on the Website or downloaded, with a large archive of programs. A week’s worth of Science Update news briefs is also available. The Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence (AASTE) recognizes extraordinary contributions by educators from California, Colorado, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Washington, and Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec), who are elevating science literacy. 34 winners receive an unrestricted cash award of $5,000 USD ($5,000 CAD). Recipients’ schools receive a restricted grant of $5,000 USD ($5,000 CAD) for the enhancement of a school science program, for science resources, or for the professional development of the school’s science teachers. Application deadline: February 5, 2010.
