The 2011 DuPont Challenge invites students in grades 7-12 to write a 700 to 1,000-word essay discussing a scientific discovery, theory, event, or technological application that has captured their interest. Prize include $5,000-$2,000 U.S. Savings Bonds and a trip to Disney World and the Kennedy Space Center. Application process open Nov. 15, 2010 through Jan. 31, 2011.

The 2011 Davidson Fellowships recognize high-achieving young people with scholarships of $50,000, $25,000 or $10,000 that can must be used at any accredited institute of learning. Applicants must submit an original piece of work recognized by experts as significant and with the potential to make a positive contribution to society. Areas in the program include Science, Technology, Mathematics, Music, Literature, Philosophy, or “Outside the Box.” The deadline to apply is March 2, 2011, with preliminary deadlines on February 2 and 16, 2011.

Tech Challenge 2011, sponsored by The Tech Museum, in San Jose, CA, this is an annual team design challenge for youth in grades 5 through 12 that introduces and reinforces the scientific process with a hands-on project geared to solve a real-world problem. This year’s challenge has students devise ways to rid the oceans of trash. Information Clinics begin Sept. 25, 2010, through Feb. 2011.

The STEM Academy is a national non-profit education program designed to improve STEM literacy for students. The curriculum prepares students through comprehensive student assessment including traditional tests, project-based learning presentations, and portfolios. The Academy also offers a grant fund for high schools.
