Competition: DuPont Challenge Science Essay. Grades 7-12

The 2011 DuPont Challenge invites students in grades 7-12 to write a 700 to 1,000-word essay discussing a scientific discovery, theory, event, or technological application that has captured their interest. Prize include $5,000-$2,000 U.S. Savings Bonds and a trip to Disney World and the Kennedy Space Center. Application process open Nov. 15, 2010 through Jan. 31, 2011.

Imagine making your own slime, talking turkey, driving a championship robot, becoming a TV meteorologist, or traveling through a virtual representation of outer space. These are just a few of the many activities planned for the 25th Annual S.E.E.D. – Science Education Enrichment Day at the University of South Carolina, October 16, 2010 
The 2011 Davidson Fellowships recognize high-achieving young people with scholarships of $50,000, $25,000 or $10,000 that can must be used at any accredited institute of learning. Applicants must submit an original piece of work recognized by experts as significant and with the potential to make a positive contribution to society. Areas in the program include Science, Technology, Mathematics, Music, Literature, Philosophy, or “Outside the Box.” The deadline to apply is March 2, 2011, with preliminary deadlines on February 2 and 16, 2011. 
Girl Scout Engineering Saturday (GSES) is a program for local Girl Scout troops in Maryland and the Washington metropolitan area. Cadettes and Seniors (grades 6-12) engage in fun, hands-on activities and earn the Building a Better Future Project patch. Join the program October 9, 2010, or again in February.
The Mother Daughter TEA (Technology Engineering Aptitude) events are 1-day professional development workshops to train participants in holding their own Mother/Daughter TEAs. Facilitated by Celeste Baine of Engineering Education Service Center. 2010-11 Dates and Locations: October 2, 2010 in Everett, WA; March 4, 2011 in Joplin, MO; April 2, 2011 in Boston, MA. The 19th Annual Future City Competition, held from September 2010 through February, 2011, invites 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from around the nation to team with engineer-volunteer mentors to create — first on computer and then in large, three-dimensional models — their visions of the city of tomorrow.
Tech Challenge 2011, sponsored by 
The STEM Academy is a national non-profit education program designed to improve STEM literacy for students. The curriculum prepares students through comprehensive student assessment including traditional tests, project-based learning presentations, and portfolios. The Academy also offers a grant fund for high schools.
