NASA TechRise Student Challenge

NASA’s TechRise Student Challenge invites U.S. students in grades 6 to 12 to submit ideas for experiments to be launched on high-altitude research balloons. Some 60 winning teams will receive $1,500 to build their experiments plus an assigned berth for their payloads on a NASA balloon flight.

Nominate an outstanding K-6 mathematics, science, or computer science teacher for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Nominations are due March 1, 2020, with applications due May 1.
Middle and high school students follow the engineering design process to create wearable devices to monitor the health of humans, animals, or both in this competition sponsored by North Carolina State University’s Nanosystems Engineering Research Center for Advanced Self-Powered Systems of Integrated Sensors and Technologies (ASSIST). The program includes teacher training and lesson plans to help implement the design challenge. Register teams by Feb. 15, 2020.
U.S. citizens 18 and under can receive $50,000, $25,000, and $10,000 scholarships for completing a “significant piece of work” in STEM, literature, music, philosophy, or an outside-the-box project. Applications are due Feb. 12, 2020.
Two policy think tanks, one conservative and the other liberal, have teamed up in a contest to generate breakthrough ideas for dramatically improving K-12 student outcomes, including in STEM. Submit brief descriptions by August 1, 2019. Ten finalists will receive $1,000 and a chance to compete for the $10,000 grand prize.
After-school and other informal activities can inspire students to pursue STEM. That’s the impetus for a new challenge launched by the Overdeck Family Foundation and Simons Foundation that invites teachers to submit ideas for creative, hands-on STEM projects that can be done outside of school. Submit ideas by April 30, 2017. 
The American Statistical Association hosts an annual poster competition for K-12 students to showcase their ability to apply and display data. Winners will receive up to $300 and Texas Instrument calculators. Submit by April 1, 2017.
The STEM Voice™ Video Competition asks kids in grades 5-12 to create short videos that show the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math. They can act in it, create an animation, sing – the video just has to be appropriate for all viewers. Winners can receive up to $700 in cash awards. Apply by May 22, 2017. 
The Young Scientist Challenge invites students in grades 5 to 8 to create a 1-2 minute video describing a new, innovating solution to solve an everyday problem. The top prize winner will receive $25,000 and opportunity to tape a Discovery show. Apply by April 19, 2017.
