Website: Consortium for Ocean Leadership
The Consortium for Ocean Leadership is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization that represents 95 of the leading public and private ocean research education institutions, aquaria, and industry with the mission to advance research, education and sound ocean policy. The organization manages ocean research and education programs in areas of scientific ocean drilling, ocean observing, ocean exploration, and ocean partnerships.
Educational Resources include:
- The Marine Geoscience Leadership Symposium, which crosses the boundaries between marine geology and geophysics and provides early career researchers with insight into leading a successful research career. This new endeavor will provide a forum for presenting cutting-edge research to peers and distinguished members of the scientific community, as well as provide valuable leadership training, including knowledge of U.S. science agencies and effective techniques to approaching decision makers and legislators.
- The Deep Earth Academy (formerly JOI Learning) , the education arm of the scientific ocean drilling program. Through professional development workshops, scientist-educator partnerships, and production of on-line and print materials based on scientific research expeditions, Deep Earth Academy works to strengthen students’ mathematics, science and analytical skills. Our vision is Teaching for Science, Learning for Life™ – using scientific ocean drilling to provide a multidisciplinary approach to earth science education.
- Diversity programs and partnerships, which provide learning opportunities, mentoring, fellowships and other horizon-building experiences for minority students to explore careers in the Earth System sciences.
- The National Ocean Sciences Bowl, an academic competition for high school students designed to stimulate interest in the ocean sciences.
