Website: Smithsonian’s Astronomy for Kids
Eyes on the Sky, Feet on the Ground is a Website supported by the Smithsonian Institution’s Astrophysical Observatory that offers online astronomy activities for students in grades 2-6
Teachers will find six online “chapters” with explorations into astronomy as a classroom tool for learning how to theorize, experiment, and analyze data. The activities are illustrated and contain detailed, step-by-step instructions, as well as suggested discussion topics.
The chapter themes are: 1) The Earth’s rotation, 2) The Earth’s Orbit, 3) Time and the Calendar, 4) Maps and Mapping, 5) The Solar System, and 6) The Moon.
This site contains the complete text and graphics of the collection, along with related links, a table of contents, an explanation of how to use the booklet, and email links to the authors.
