Teachers’ Summer: Online Engineering Workshops, March 7 and June 20, 2011
Dates: March 7 and June 20, 2011. Eligibility: Teachers grades 9-12. Location: Museum of Science, Boston. Cost: $150.
Engineering the Future® Online Course
This professional-level, moderated, online course is for teachers using Engineering the Future. It familiarizes teachers with this project-based science curriculum, offers pedagogical guidance, and provides access to continuing support resources.
Engineering the Future is full-year project-based engineering curriculum correlated to national high school technology and engineering standards. Student teams apply mathematics and science through sequential tasks (following engineering design process) to solve challenges in four distinct, engaging projects.
This is a four-week online course. Participants have flexibility within each week but are expected to begin and complete the activities during the assigned week. Participants will spend 5–10 hours on coursework each week. Instruction includes activities, videos, and discussion forums for communicating with colleagues. A trained moderator leads and provides support throughout the course.

What You’ll Learn
After you complete this course, you will be fully prepared to teach with Engineering the Future. You will:
- Gain the necessary background and content knowledge for teaching each unit
- Develop a solid understanding of Project-Based Learning pedagogy
- Learn helpful teaching strategies, including team-forming and visual concept mapping
- Familiarize yourself with each of the projects and write a project implementation plan for your classroom
- Register for access to continuing teacher support
