Teachers Get Valuable Pointers from Professors

Yale National Initiative

A group of Delaware teachers participated in an initiative that pairs each one with a university expert in a particular course the teacher is offering. For some, it’s made a huge difference.

Called the Yale National Initiative, the program creates a partnership between universities and high-need schools, according to the Wilmington, Del. News Journal. Professors who are experts in their topics help K-12 teachers learn more about their core subject area and teaching strategies. Teachers, in turn, use their new knowledge to prepare lessons for their students that are aligned to the district and state standards. Brick Mill Elementary teacher Lori Paderewski said the experience was “life-changing.”

“This institute is what’s going to keep me going for the next 20 years. It’s that amazing,” Paderewski said.
