A series of Workshops was organized by the Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum to focus on STEM learning design for young students and adolescents. This report provides a summary of the ideas generated by workshop participants and offered to the STEM instructional design community and to agencies that fund this work.

Highlights for High School is an MIT initiative providing free, open source teaching and learning materials to high school teachers and students. These materials include video lecture clips, lecture notes, practice problems, exams, and other resources from MIT’s introductory physics, biology, and calculus courses; mini-courses for high school students developed by MIT students; and an introduction for students to the college-level MIT curriculum and course materials on OpenCourseWare.

The Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education sponsors and designs interdisciplinary projects that teachers can use to enhance their curriculum through compelling use of the Internet. CIESE focuses on projects that utilize real time data available from the Internet, and collaborative projects that utilize the Internet’s potential to reach peers and experts around the worldm as well as a list of online resources. Each project has a brief description and links to the National Science Standards and NCTM math standards it supports.
