Doc Thanks His Science Teacher
Al Siedlecki — known as “Sie” to his students — has taught science at Medford Memorial Middle School in New Jersey for more than three decades.
But a few years back, as Sie was helping a group of students study for a test, something happened that in all his years of teaching had never occurred before: Lee Buono, a student from back in the 1980s, called to thank him for inspiring a love of science — and a career as a neurosurgeon.
The two sat down at StoryCorps, National Public Radio’s oral history project, to tell the rest of their story. The audio archives are archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.’
