Maryland Launches STEM Teacher Network
The Maryland Business Roundtable plans to start an online networking site where science, technology, engineering, and math teachers can share and contribute to lesson plans and connect with university, government and corporate experts, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Funded with $2 million in federal Race to the Top money and more than $300,000 in corporate contributions, the STEMnet site is set to debut in one large district in the spring and expand to other districts in the fall. Initially, it will focus on biology. Teachers will be able to go on line and ask for a volunteer in the field come to their classrooms to speak to students about the work of their field. IBM will develop software to links volunteers with schools.
