Educational Technology Plan Unveiled
Sec. Arne Duncan visits a school that uses technology to improve learning.
A new U.S. Department of Education plan calls for “revolutionary transformation” in how educators use technology to improve and measure student learning. As part of the plan, the department will fund studies of online professional-collaboration communities for educators, Education Week reports. It will also finance the development of open-source educational resources and will launch an initiative aimed at defining and increasing educational productivity.
“The challenging and rapidly changing demands of our global economy tell us what people need to know and who needs to learn. Advances in learning sciences show us how people learn. Technology makes it possible for us to act on this knowledge and understanding,” the plan’s executive summary states. It lays out goals and recommendations forĀ learning, assessment, teaching, infrastructure, and productivity.
