Competiton: Solve the Rubik’s Cube — Quickly!

Eligibility: All public, private, religious, home schools, after school, and other “Not for Profit” community youth organizations in the Greater Washington DC area (including Virginia and Maryland) serving ages K-12. Registration Deadline: April 30, 2010. Prizes: Range from $1,000 to $100.

The You CAN Do the Rubik’s Cube Tournament challenges teams of K-12 students from area schools in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia, to see who can solve 25 Rubik’s Cubes in the fastest time.

All teams will compete in a preliminary Tournament, held on Thursday, October 21, 2010*, at the National Electronics Museum.

The top six finalists will advance to the Grand Final to be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010, as part of the USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo on the National Mall. The Final will be followed by the Awards Ceremony.

Each team will consist of eight students from grades K-12. Join the fun! All public, private, religious, home schools, after school, and other “Not for Profit” community youth organizations in the Greater Washington DC area (including Virginia and Maryland) serving ages K-12 can participate.

The You CAN Do The Rubik Cube Program provides a Math Education Kit available at www.YouCanDoTheCube.com  at a special discounted price (1 kit – $49.99, 2 – $79.99 and 3 – $99.99) for Registrants of the Tournament.  The kit includes 12 Rubik’s Cubes, Solution Guides, and an instructional CD with math lessons and activities that have been designed and piloted by teachers and educational consultants for classroom use at varying grade levels.  These lessons are aligned with national standards, curriculum frameworks in 50 States and 21st Century Skills. Kit materials can be downloaded (without cubes) for free.  Kits can be ordered online at www.YouCanDoTheCube.com or use this order form.

No purchase is necessary to register and compete in the Tournament.

Orientation Workshop for Teachers and Coachesrubiks

Teachers and Coaches are encouraged to attend the orientation workshop on April 10, 2010, 11:00am to 3:00pm (lunch will be provided) at the National Electronics Museum (1745 West Nursery Road, Linthicum Hts, MD 21090-2906) where we will show you how to solve the Rubik’s Cube and you will hear from Teachers and Educators who already use the Rubik’s Cube in their classroom. To sign up for this workshop, simply state so on the tournament registration form below.

The first 30 teachers/coaches who register for the tournament AND attend the teacher/coach orientation workshop on April 10, are eligible to receive a free Math Education Kit valued at $150.
