Event: Whiz Kids Film, Dec. 9, Wash., DC
On Wed., December 9, 2009, at 7 p.m., “Whiz Kids,” a documentary that follows battling 16-year-olds in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search, shows at the National Academy of Sciences Auditorium (2100 C St., N.W., Washington, D.C.). The event is free, but reservations and photo ID are required.
Radio Host Bob Edwards (formerly host of NPR’s Morning Edition) will moderate a Q&A with the film’s subjects and filmmakers immediately following the movie screening. The documentary explores in depth the lives and struggles of the students competing in the Intel competition.
Additionally, the Society for Science & the Public (SSP) is sponsoring a student podcast contest to celebrate the movie premiere. Local high school students who attend the premiere can submit either an audio or video podcast about the movie. Podcasts will be judged for originality and creativity, and top prizes of $300 for individual students and teams will be awarded. Each student who enters will receive a complimentary one year digital subscription to Science News magazine.
