In this lesson for ages 8 to 18, students work in teams to design and build a working robotic arm from a set of everyday items. Each arm should be able to pick up a Styrofoam cup.

The SeaPerch program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology aims to increase college enrollments in engineering and technical programs by introducing middle and high school students to science through hands-on activities. Students build an underwater robot from a kit, following a curriculum that teaches basic engineering and science concepts with a marine engineering theme.
