STEM Teachers’ Scholarships
Application Deadline: May 1, 2011. Level: Future Teachers
The AFCEA Educational Foundation is offering 50 scholarships of $5,000 each to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) subjects at a U.S. middle or secondary school. The scholarships are made possible by generous contributions from Booz Allen Hamilton, Terremark Worldwide, AFCEA International, and several of AFCEA’s regional chapters.
To be eligible, students must be U.S. citizens with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent). Undergraduate candidates must be attending an accredited U.S. college or university on-campus and majoring in secondary education or a STEM field for the purpose of teaching STEM subjects in a U.S. middle or secondary school. Distance Learning or Online Programs will not qualify. Undergraduate applications will be accepted from current sophomores and juniors. Graduate-level candidates must be currently enrolled in at least two semester-equivalent classes at an accredited U.S. college or university. Credential and licensure students must have completed a bachelor’s degree in a STEM major.
The deadline for submitting the scholarship application is midnight U.S. Eastern Time on Sunday, May 1, 2011. All supporting documents including letters of recommendation and transcripts are due by this date.

In addition to the $5,000 scholarship, each graduating AFCEA STEM Scholar can receive a $1,000 AFCEA Science Teaching Tools grant each year for three years if the recipient continues teaching a STEM subject. These grants can be used to fund hardware and software, other classroom tools, field trips, STEM-focused clubs and other activities.
An additional STEM Teacher scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded annually to a future teacher attending a Virginia college or university in honor of John W. Warner, former United States Senator, Commonwealth of Virginia and former Secretary of the Navy. An additional STEM Teacher scholarship of $2,500 will be awarded annually to honor the memory of MG Eugene C. Renzi, USA (Ret.). This scholarship is made possible by a generous endowment from ManTech International. The recipient will be selected from the STEM Teacher applicants. Click here for more info.

PLEASE NOTE: In addition to the online application, other required documents include two letters of recommendation from relevant faculty. If currently employed as a teacher, one additional letter from the school principal must be submitted.
