“We know that yoga is a practice that brings your body and mind and heart all together,” physical education teacher Rochelle Gladu Pattenshe tells students at Susan B. Anthony Middle School in Minneapolis. “And that’s what yoga means — to connect.” Twice a week, her students spend 20 minutes practicing yoga poses.

Every morning at Jefferson Elementary in Minneapolis, the entire school practices deep breathing in unison with the help of the PA system. The school uses yoga throughout the day, including to help kids calm down before standardized tests.
