Grant to Aid STEM Teacher Recruitment
A Teach for America Teacher
Teach for America is the latest player in the nation’s effort to improve STEM education. The Wall Street Journal (1/24) reports the alternative teacher-preparation program is getting a $500,000 financial boost from the ExxonMobil Foundation to recruit and train recent college graduates for math and science teaching positions in high-needs communities in Dallas, Houston, southern Louisiana, and the District of Columbia.
Teach for America also announced the establishment of a $100 million permanent endowment fund made possible by donations from four major philanthropic investments. The nonprofit, launched by Princeton graduate Wendy Kopp twenty years ago this month, was just named one of Fortune magazine’s 100 best companies to work for.
