Website: Environmental Science Institute, UT-Austin
The Environmental Science Institute at the University of Texas Austin provides a number of helpful K-12 lesson plans on topics ranging from acid rain to air pollution, aquifers, caves, and termites. These lesson plans do not contain state and national standards, and several are designed specifically for Austin or Texas use, but all could be modified for individual use.
Outreach at the Environmental Science Institute also includes:
• The Hot Science – Cool Talks Lecture Series, in which researchers communicate their research to the public, and in particular to the K-12 community. The talks are interactive educational experiences, lively discussion, and a live webcast
• The GK-12 Program, for which the ESI partners sciences graduate students with Texas K-12 teachers to enhance science education through classroom activities, workshops, and field projects
• Newsletters to notify subscribers of upcoming science education events, such the Hot Science – Cool Talks, and upcoming workshops.
