Project Discovery is a one week program for high school females to explore possibilities within the field of engineering.
The program allows students to exchange ideas in an atmosphere where curiousity and enthusiasm, not tests and grdes, inspire learning. KU engineering faculty talk with students about the various fields of professional engineers. Students learn about the research methods and problem solving approaches that ebgineers use every day.

In respect to the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education to the future economic well-being of the nation, and the declining numbers of students (US citizens) choosing STEM professions, the Department of Defense (DOD) through the National Defense Education Program (NDEP) has initiated programs to develop and implement strategies to further enhance STEM education efforts in various geographic areas across our nation.

SAE International’s A World In Motion® (AWIM) is a teacher-administered, industry volunteer-assisted program that brings science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education to life in the classroom for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Benchmarked to the national standards, AWIM incorporates the laws of physics, motion, flight and electronics into age-appropriate hands on activities that reinforce classroom STEM curriculum.

Engaging Youth in Engineering (EYE) is a K-12 economic and workforce development initiative being piloted in 9 schools in the Mobile [AL] County Public School System. The purpose of EYE is to produce more high school graduates eager and able to pursue post-secondary careers and academics requiring a strong STEM background.

Get WISE (Women In Step with Engineering), sponsored by Northern Illinois University’s College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, is a program dedicated to helping young women in middle school and high school explore the exciting and rewarding field of engineering. Weekly clubs are offered at area middle and high schools and the summer residential engineering camps are open to all students.
