Multiplying Your Options (MYO) camp at the University of Akron is a one week summer day camp for girls in the seventh and eighth grades that introduces the girls to mechanical, electrical, biomedical, civil, chemical, and mechanical polymer engineering. This camp will be held from June 22nd through June 26th, 2009. Each day is comprised of hands-on engineering activities in the morning led by our talented faculty and is followed by dynamic tours of local engineering firms in the afternoon. The students also spend the week working as a team, designing an edible car and competing against other student teams at the end of the week.

In this activity for grades 1 to 6, students learn how to create a paper flyer that moves like the blades of a helicopter. They will see how changing the helicopter’s shape or weight affects its flight and explore how air resistance changes the way an object falls.
