Students Prepare for Solar Decathlon

Students are making their way to the National Mall in Washington to reassemble the solar-powered houses that they designed as part of the 2009 Solar Decathlon, sponsored by the Department of Energy. The Decathlon challenges each team to design, build, and operate the most livable and energy-efficient solar-powered house. It must produce enough electricity and hot water to perform all the functions of a typical home, in addition to charging the battery of an electric car. The decathlon formally opens Oct. 8.
