Materials: NISE Net Nanotech Kit

Application deadline: December 10, 2010.

NISE Net, which sponsors the NanoDays event  (March 26 through April 3, 2011), offers teachers a free physical nanotechnology kit to support a local Nanodays event. The kits include several hands-on activities (with supplies), resource materials, marketing materials, and more (see list below).

Applications for physical kits will be accepted from October 20, 2010 through December 10, 2010. A total of 200 kits are available for distribution. Kits will be shipped in early January, 2011.

NISE Net also offers a digital download version of the NanoDays kit,  with instructions, supply lists, marketing materials, and multimedia files. Consider this option if you do not meet eligibility criteria, are affiliated with an organization that does not hold public events, would like to preview the contents, are located outside the United States, or want to create multiple copies of print resources. The 2010 Digital kits are available for download after at www.nisenet.org/nanodays/

What’s in the kit?

I. A set of guides and tools for engaging the public in nanoscale science:

  • NanoDays Planning Guidebook
  • Bringing Nano to the Public: a Collaboration Opportunity for Researchers and Museums
  • Science Cafe Guide

II. Instructions, graphics, and supplies to deliver twelve hands-on nano activities to 80-100 visitors each:

  • Exploring Measurement—Human Body
  • Exploring Measurement—Molecules
  • Exploring Measurement—Card Games
  • Exploring Tools—Tiny Tools, Tiny Tech
  • Exploring Tools—SPM
  • Exploring Materials—Thin Films

III. Additional products for engaging the public in nano:

  • 6 societal implications posters with supporting materials
  • “Zoom into a Human Hand” interactive media piece (on DVD)
  • “Zoom into a Nasturtium Leaf” interactive media piece (on DVD)
  • “I’m Made of Atoms” & “I Heart Nano” temporary tattoos

IV. A large (3′ x 5′) NanoDays Banner

V. A CD with electronic templates for the following marketing materials:

  • News release
  • Nano clip art
  • NanoDays logo in various sizes and colors
  • Ready-to-print poster
  • Ready-to-print banner
  • Ready-to-print t-shirt art
  • Labels in sizes for nametags & business cards
  • Letterhead
