In an effort to help student become creators – not just consumers – of technology, Google is offering RISE (Roots in Science and Engineering) awards to organizations that promote access to K-12 computer science education.

The goal is to inspire, engage, and retain more students – particularly girls and underrepresented minorities – in the field of computing.

Applications for the 2014 RISE Awards are due September 30, 2014, with notification in December. Last year’s recipients included schools, university K-12 outreach programs, and nonprofit organizations such as Science Buddies.

Organizations are eligible to apply for up to $50,000 in funding to expand a successful computer-science program or to include computer science in a successful science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program that targets girls and/or underrepresented minority students up to the age of 18.
