2010 District of Columbia Science and Engineering Fair

The 2010 District of Columbia Science and Engineering Fair showcases winning projects from school-sponsored science fairs, displaying students’ work to professional scientists and engineers and the general public.

The fair, held Sat., March 27, 8:30am – 4:30pm at McKinley Technology High School., is an Intel ISEF (International Science & Engineering Fair) affiliated fair and open to all public, charter, and private school students, grades 6 -12.

Grand prize winners of the Senior Division go on to participate in the International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in San Jose, CA (May 9-14).

IMPORTANT DATES:

• Student/Team Project Registration Deadline – March 17, 2010
• On-site Project Setup – March 26, 2010
• Intel ® International Science and Engineering Fair – May 9-14, 2010

Any student in grades 6-12 enrolled in a public, private, or charter in the District of Columbia. Student participants/exhibitors must be sponsored by a scientist, science teacher or laboratory staff member. This sponsor is responsible for familiarity with the participant’s research plan and safety requirements, as well as making sure the student safely follows all relevant Fair rules.

Individual and team projects are permitted. Individual projects must be original and result from the student’s own interest and research. Teams may consist of up to three (3) members, with an appointed team leader to coordinate the work and act as the spokesperson. However, each member should be able to serve as a spokesperson, be fully involved with the project, and be familiar with all aspects of the project.

The DCSEF is divided into two divisions: Senior (grades 9-12) and Junior (grades 6-8).

REGISTRATION:

Participants in grades 9-12 must adhere to International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) rules and therefore must submit the Research Plan Approval Form, and Checklist for Adult Sponsor, with necessary signatures, and any other appropriate form (s) (Qualified Scientist Form, Designated Supervisor Form, Human Subject Form, Informed Consent Form, Vertebrate Animal Form, or Human Tissue Form) to Center for Minority Achievement in Science and Technology on or before March 17, 2010.

Required Forms for All Projects – Regardless of the type of project, all project registrations must include the following forms:

Exhibit Contract
Checklist for Adult Sponsor/Safety Assessment Form (1)
Project Abstract Form
Student Checklist and Research Plan (1A), for both individuals and teams. Includes Research Plan Attachment
Approval Form 1B. Each team member must submit an individual signed 1B Form. Team members must jointly submit the Checklist for Adult Sponsor (Form 1), one abstract, a Team Research Plan (Form 1A), all the Approval Forms (1B), all the Registration Forms, and other required forms in a single combined package.

The DC Science and Engineering Fair is affiliated with Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) and follows the same rules and regulations. Students must  ensure their project complies with ISEF requirements.
