Event: Girls Day at South Dakota. April 6, 2010

Date: April 6, 2010, 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Level: Girls in grades 6 – 8. Location: Rapid City, SD. Cost: $5.00 Registration Deadline: March 23, 2010.

This event is designed to introduce young women to careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Girls will hear inspiring and encouraging messages about pursuing careers in STEM areas and participate in some hands-on activities. Various departments will host demonstrations. Events and activities planned for this day are prepared for middle school age girls in grades six through eight.

Each girl should complete and return the forms to her teacher, along with the $5 registration fee. Teachers should mail completed forms and the registration fees for their class/school to:

The Girls Day Poster Contest theme this year will be “Clean Water,” encouraging water treatment, water conservation, and helping the environment. All students attending this event are encouraged to enter the Poster Contest.

Posters may be drawings, photos, collages, or printed material and must be no larger than 16″ x 22″ poster board with the student’s name, grade, school and teacher’s name printed plainly on the upper right hand corner on the back side of the poster. All posters submitted will be displayed in the Surbeck Ballroom for the entire day. Winning Prizes will be awarded at the end of the event for the top two posters based on scientific and creative criteria.

We’re looking forward to spending the day together! Space is limited, so remember to register early as the forms and the fees must be received by March 23, 2010.
