Event: Engineering Day, Feb. 28, Richmond, VA

Date: Sunday, February 28, 1-4:30 p.m.

Engineering Day at the Science Museum of Virginia, Richmond, VA

Several contests are being planned to be held at the Science Museum on Sunday Feb. 28, 2010, during Career Day in conjunction with Engineers Week. As in years past, contests will include an egg drop contest and a bridge building contest.

Eggdrop

You won’t want to miss the Great Egg Drop Contest. Egg containers are dropped down a stairwell and contestants aim at a 4-foot-by-4-foot target. Trophies and cash awards are presented in three categories: the lightest cushion-type container that hits or comes closest to the target, the lightest parachute-type device that hits or comes closest to the target and the most creative design.

Cheer on your favorite middle and high school students in the Bridge Building competition. See which ice cream-stick bridge can hold the most weight before it breaks. In addition to prizes for the most weight-bearing bridges, there are also awards for the most aesthetic and most innovative design and for a design that beats the judges’ design.

Advance registration is encouraged, please visit www.rjec.org for contest details.

Career Day is a chance for students and their parents to talk with engineers, mathematicians and scientists about college and career opportunities. Sponsored by the Richmond Joint Engineers Council. The event is held in conjunction with Engineers Week.
