The answer is computer programming, and advocates from Microsoft founder Bill Gates to former president Bill Clinton are pushing to include it in the K-12 curriculum.

Why wait? Code.org offers a host of websites, courses, and other free resources to help students build programming  skills, including lessons in html and creating phone apps. Far from being complicated algorithms only a geek could master, just about anyone can become proficient code writers — even four-year-olds. The code.org site also contains tips for teachers on how to integrate code-writing and programming projects into math or science classes to cover content standards.
