<strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Deadline for the Kavli Science Video Contest has been extended to August, 31, 2010.<span></strong><p style="text-align: justify;">This contest for K-12 students invites videos that are creative, surprising, and “contagious,” spreading science enthusiasm to others. Videos might explore a scientific concept, show the wonders of nature, show what scientific discovery has done for us in the past or will do for us in the future, introduce a great scientist or engineer, or simply show why we should care about science and/or engineering. Prizes include a screening on the National Mall,  money , and possibly even a trip to the Science Expo in Washington D.C.]]></description>

Philadelphia's <strong>Franklin Institute</strong> is a science museum "in the spirit of inquiry and discovery embodied by Benjamin Franklin" that aims to inspire an understanding of and passion for science and technology learning. It offers visiting and permanent exhibitions, an IMAX theatre,  planetarium, and school programs and summer camps. Its Center for Innovation in  Science Learning provide educators with helpful resources, links, and news stories.]]></description>

In the program, a graduate student or postdoctoral coordinator sends teams of graduate and undergraduate student volunteers to Orange County schools to perform demonstrations and talk about chemistry. The coordinator contacts the high schools, develops the demonstrations, recruits and trains the volunteers, and supplies the volunteers with materials needed for the demonstrations.]]></description>

<strong>Da Vinci - The Genius</strong> is a  <a href="http://www.davincithegenius.com/traveling-exhibition.php" target="_blank"> traveling exhibition</a> on display at the National  Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C., from June 18 to  Sept. 12, that  demonstrates the full scope of Leonardo da Vinci's  remarkable  innovations as an inventor, artist, anatomist, sculptor,  engineer,  musician, and architect. The exhibition includes Da Vinci's visions for the glider, parachute, precursor to the modern helicopter, forerunner of the modern military tank, automobile, submarine, ball bearing and gear systems, and other inventions that were far ahead of their time.]]></description>
